James Gunn Just Killed the Wonder Woman Casting Rumor

By BBB•Wednesday, October 7, 2026•2 min read•2 views

DC fans spent the weekend convinced they'd cracked the DCU's Wonder Woman casting all because Frank Grillo reposted a fan-made graphic on his Instagram Stories. James Gunn has now shut it down completely, and his response is peak Gunn.

How a Fan Poster Became "Breaking News"

It started with a fan-made lineup graphic for Gunn's upcoming Superman: Man of Tomorrow, which depicted Adria Arjona as Wonder Woman alongside other DCU characters. Grillo — who plays Rick Flag Sr. in the DCU — shared it to his Instagram Stories, and the internet did what the internet does: treated a repost as a confirmation.

Within hours, "Adria Arjona Wonder Woman" was trending, with fans debating whether Grillo had accidentally leaked major casting news.

Gunn's Response Was Brutally Honest

Asked about it on Threads, Gunn didn't mince words:

"It's Frank reposting somebody because it has his photo in it, and he loves himself. I can assure you Frank doesn't know who Adria is playing in the DCU and whether or not she has any sort of incredibly small cameo in MoT or not. People have been making way too much of this."

He even shared a private text exchange with Grillo, in which he'd told the actor: "You're killing me posting WW and Blue Beetle stuff! You're going to disappoint people so badly!" Grillo's defense? He saw a "cool poster" and reshared it without thinking.

What We Actually Know About Wonder Woman in the DCU

Here's the confirmed part: a Wonder Woman project is in development at DC Studios, and Arjona's name has been circulating in connection with the DCU but Gunn explicitly refused to confirm what role, if any, she's playing, or whether she appears in Man of Tomorrow at all.

My take: this is actually a great sign for the DCU. Gunn would rather disappoint fans now than let a false rumor set expectations and hopes and he'll have to walk back later. The man learned from the Snyder era to control the narrative or the narrative controls you.

The Bottom Line

No, Frank Grillo did not leak the Wonder Woman casting. Yes, James Gunn will tell you exactly that to your face. The DCU's Diana Prince remains one of Hollywood's best-kept secrets — and after this weekend, Gunn's going to make sure it stays that way.
