Marvel Avengers: Endgame Just Made Another $4.4M
Seven years after it became the highest-grossing movie of all time (briefly) in the hollywood history and Avengers: Endgame is still taking people's money. The 2019 MCU epic just earned $4.4 million in a theatrical re-release — enough to land in the weekend's Top 10, ahead of new releases.
The Movie That Won't Leave
Think about how absurd that is. A film everyone has already seen, available on streaming for years, still pulled $4.4M in three days beating Practical Magic 2 ($2.6M) and Drishyam: The Conclusion's North American take ($2.7M) in the process. People didn't just rewatch it; they paid theater prices to do it on multiple times.
Part of it is timing. With Avengers: Doomsday on the horizon and the MCU in a transitional era, nostalgia for the Infinity Saga peak is running hot. Part of it is simpler: Endgame is one of the last true communal theater experiences, and people wanted to feel that again.
What It Tells Us About 2026 Audiences
Studios keep asking why original movies struggle while IP dominates. Here's a data point: audiences will pay $15 to rewatch a seven-year-old movie they own, but won't gamble on something new. The re-release economy from Endgame to anniversary runs is becoming a real box office category.
My take: there's something bittersweet about Endgame outgrossing new releases. It's a tribute to how massive that moment was — and an indictment of how little has matched it since. Doomsday has enormous shoes to fill.
